Nirmal Dhiman is an emeging British-Indian visual artist, illustrator and designer, who likes to make intimate, colourful and multi-faceted narrative drawings and paintings using a combination of watercolour, gouache, inks, collage, letraset, found elements, verse or prose, as well as with various computer, photographic and video based means.

In 1996, Nirm found an unused diary from 1969. In which he started to make a drawing a day, a process which evolved into a drawing about that day's experiences. A visual diary artist book project that he has been working on ever since.

The project has since formed the core basis of all his work and has grown into a daily requirement. Currently spanning over 4,000 entries, the visual diaries have become a personal archive of moments, meta-content and ideas.

Now that the Visual Diary project has over eleven years worth of drawings (approximately 4,000 entries), he is now looking to exhibit the diaries/drawings and explore what else he can do with the project.

Encompassing a variety of different styles, subjects and formats, these drawings have allowed me to reflect of living in England, learn of my cultural background/identity and of where I might be heading.

These cross-cultural, journalistic works have been described as modern day British-Indian miniature paintings. Todays global information structures have helped to inform an international aspect to the work.

Nirm's diary project has recently been researched and studied throughout the UK and used by a number of students as the basis for their response to an AS and A-Level Art exam question based on visual diaries.

The diaries have already been shown on BBC television, radio and internet on several occasions, as well as other on web sites and publications.

Nirmal Dhiman is based in Crawley, West Sussex, UK, and also works on award winning interactive design and websites, illustration projects, animation/motion graphics, sequential art /comics /graphic novellas, photography, design for print and typeface design.

Currently looking for more exhibition, live art, illustration and book showing opportunities.
